Greece Looks At U.S. Model for Entrepreneurs

Greece’s Education Minister, Anna Daimantopoulou , was in Silicon Valley for three days looking at how to boost Greece’s competitiveness by tapping Greek entrepreneurs and venture capitalists who had come to study in the U.S. and stayed in the U.S.

She says she is trying to put together an expat network, similar to what the Indian government has done with Indian techies in the U.S. The Greek expats would sit on a new National Research Council and help review new research projects originating in Greece. The expat network would help evaluate the projects and could help co-finance, with the Greek government, promising efforts.

She was literally wide-eyed as she described the number of immigrant entrepreneurs she met in California and talked about what a “miracle” it was for the U.S. to have such a pool of talent.
