The IMF said Wednesday it might intervene in euro-zone bond markets, in what could be seen as a precautionary measure to help countries like Italy and Spain. Later in the day, an IMF official, tempering earlier comments, said the idea hadn't yet been vetted by the fund's membership, and there had been no formal requests from euro-zone members for additional financing.
