Euro-Zone Confidence Improves

Consumers in the 16 nations that use the euro became more upbeat about the outlook for the economy and less fearful of losing their jobs in August, driving a revival of confidence in the currency area.

In a monthly survey published Monday, the European Commission's overall Economic Sentiment Indicator, or ESI, rose to 101.8 from 101.1, in line with forecasts and its third straight monthly increase. It was the ESI's highest reading for 29 months. That suggests the euro-zone economy will continue to grow in the months ahead.
