Greece’s prime minister has urged deputies to stay loyal in a 2011 budget debate billed as a vote of confidence in the socialist government.
George Papandreou appealed for unity after rebellious deputies last week forced the finance ministry to withdraw a proposed €24bn ($32bn) write-off of taxes it said could not be collected.
“It’s up to us to take the difficult decisions that will enable the country to restore its strength and its sovereignty,” Mr Papandreou told his parliamentary group on Saturday.
